We just got back from Guatemala where we celebrated the Day of the Dead or Dia de los Muertos (November 1st). This religious holiday centers around remembering loved ones and embracing family history. Sumpango and Santiago Sacatepéquez hold the worlds largest kite festival and it is truly awesome!
NatGeo was there and you can see their video here.
The kite represents communication with loved ones who have passed away. The skies are filled with kites large and small. And they are stunning works of art sometimes taking many months to craft.
