Protege Collection

This cooperative of more than 80 weavers in the highlands of Guatemala are creating some of the most stunning modern weavings today.  Using ancient techniques they dye fibers and produce gorgeous textiles on backstrap looms which are then fashioned into gorgeous bags.  The collection also includes hand-woven table linens.  Many of their designs can be seen at the Ixchel Textile Museum.  The University of San Juan Marroquin works to support these indigenous weavers in preserving the traditional art of weaving.
